Panavia Tornado Preservation Group
“Safe Hosts provided the solution really efficiently – setup was slick and customer service has been friendly and patient.”
Elliott Atkins, Chairman
The Panavia Tornado Preservation Group was set up in 2015.
The Group's charitable aims are to educate the public about the role of Tornados in British aviation and preserve and exhibit examples of the aircraft.
The charity’s prize possession is a unique Tornado GR.1P, on public display at the South Wales Aviation Museum.
The challenge
The Group’s volunteers come together for a couple of days each month to refurbish the aircraft and restore it to its former glory.
However, the collaborative pre-planning work required was hard to achieve with technical and organisational documents scattered across various privately-owned systems, threatening to delay the complete restoration by years.
The solution
> 1U dedicated server, with power and bandwidth
A private server was preferred over a cloud solution due to the bespoke nature of many files and the specialist browsers required to view them.
The Group came to Safe Hosts looking for a unit of rack space but were offered a dedicated server as well as hosting space, removing the burden of management and allowing the Group to focus resources entirely on its charitable aims.
The result

Central repository for files and information, safe, secure and reliable

Easily accessible by all volunteers

Improved planning ahead of site visits to maximise working hours and keep the Tornado restoration on track
